I just read your article, Perlite vs Vermiculite, and it did not address my question. I accidentally bought vermiculite for making hypertufa pots, and wondered if I could just use it instead of the perlite. I thought a site called, Perlite vs Vermiculite, on a site called, Hypertufa Molds, would hold the answer.

So if you can't find it local just buck up for the shipping and get it. The PF TEK says you want horticultural grade vermiculite because the particle size is too big in the insulation grade vermiculite.

I have the vermiculite in a bucket for slow cooling and mixed the perlite with some stove cement for a castable refractory. Silicosis is bad but just don't stand over the bag while you are shaking it out. Or wear a filter mask.
