The Lehigh Portland Cement Co., founded in 1897 by a group of investors that included Gen. Harry C. Trexler, was one of the largest cement companies in the region in 1942. Its plant at s Eddy had first been for the Quaker Cement Co. in 1911. Lehigh Portland began operations there in 1926.

Lehigh Portland Cement Company produces cements, concrete and concrete products, lightweight aggregates, and related construction materials and services. After 80 years of independent operation it was purchased by a German company, Heidelberger Zement A.G., in 1977.
